Not So Usual (a comment)

So you thought you could stop people commenting on your blog by making your comments closed? You were wrong. Imagine my dissapointment when I went to comment and realised I couldn't. Mind you I only wanted to comment on the fact that the comments were closed, as I was asleep until the bit where you started talking about some guy called John wishing he was called Fiona.

However, the desire to comment on your website has given me the motivation to use hyperlinks on my blogger blog, an action I had been avoiding until now. I once knocked over a hyperlink in my rush to avoid the toilet, and the guilt had kept me clear of them till now. I might even get around to doing it properly on my serious blog. It needs a bit of work right enough, but I've been avoiding work. It tripped me up on my way over to sure-ality, and I've been on uncertain terms with it ever since. I'm actually trying to hunt it right now, and once I get it I'll grab Zoomtard and we'll make serious blogging sexy. yeah.

And guess what? You won't believe me, but I've actually found a friend's blog type thing that doesn't need an excuse to exist. The usual excuse goes something like, "eh, well, my friends like me and they read it.", or "it's funny" as if humour was ever IMPORTANT, or "I get to express my views. I also have an excuse for why my views are important, if you want to see. Because they are Christian. Yeah, I've got an excuse for Christianity here somewhere too. I've expressed it on my website, which I've got an excuse for.". Only a computer nerd would come up with a recursive excuse. pah. Only a Stigmund or a Liam would tell me that they don't need an excuse because the fact that they know that their website is great is enough. And then say, "enough" again, like an order to me. Is it a coincidence that the link for liam is invalid? I think not. Anyway, the worth of this girl's website is obvious. A picture tells a thousand words. Mind you I've always wondered which thousand words it tells. Are they random words, or is their worth intrinsic to how they are linked together? And what is the unit of a words worth? How many words did he write? How many drawings did lia-fail draw? The answer to this question may reveal Wordsworth's worth, relative to lia-fail's. hmm. deep questions.

Deep answers.

And don't ever ask me about parties again, Stigmund. Not after what you said the other day, bless you. No! I said blast you! Get your ears checked if you can't tell the difference between, "blast" and, "bless". For all the tea in China!

Liam McD is an amazing singer songwriter who I only see at the odd party, and I'm not a huge party goer. Based on this limited knowledge I think he is a good man: helpful, friendly and actually interested in the person he is talking to which sometimes seems unusual in people I don't know that well. Based on his blog I would say that he is arrogant, mean and harsh, but I like it because he is funny.

More detail on my opinion of his music: His ability with melody and harmony is second to none, up there with Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles. In fact they've written worse songs than anything I've heard of his and his songs are at least as good as their better ones, but that could be a case of quality over quantity. The only thing he is not outstanding in is his timing (not the tempo. I love that. What I mean is that he doesn't have as much to offer in the way of perfectly timed pauses or moments where the music changes significantly yet flawlessly to emphasise its message, but I need to hear more of his stuff. I could be wrong). What I mean is that his timing is good, just not outstanding. His lyrics are outstanding because good lyrics are hard to come by rather than because he is as good as the likes of Leanard Cohen (he doesn't come near that standard of verbal expression IMO). The problem is his music is hard to get one's hands on right now. grrrr.

As for a present, well.. Myself and my betrothed want to start doing a bit more camping, and we have a bit of a voucher from the great outdoors left. Another voucher for there would be great. Any sort of activity based thing is good because we don't earn much money for treats and neither of us are big into posessions. I don't really know. Ha. I'd hate to be you trying to buy us a present. It's awkward enough trying to think of something for me and I know myself! Oh. I just thought of something! It depends on how much you can spend but a cheap DVD player would be welcome. I know you can get them for less than 50e. The only problem is I'm not sure if our telly works as we still need to get a remote for it. Or failing that an apartment or house. I think you might get one for less than 500k.

i have had no takers on the dominos chilli sauce yet . anything lying around your possesion less house that you dont want?
as for a dvd player i actually think we have one...scratch that idea we do but we aint giving it away...
ahh sure i'll get you something.

that was a very detailed great answer to my liamMcd question. i feel like ive met him! i will tack him on to my friends ...maybe. i thought his music was a bit boring. i guess your answer warrants a second listen. of course an old raver like me could not be pleased sometimes.

Boring! How dare you! I know what you mean I think. He is quite Gilbert Sullivan in his style sometimes (not exactly in your face). Perhaps he needs to play with the beat a bit more within a single song (not just changing it for the chorus) or maybe he just doesn't suit your mood? Which songs have you listened to?

Liam McD is the messiah. You, sir, are a bitter and caustic young man, and you would be well advised to distribute some of that excessive rage in a more appropriate manner - try not holding doors open, for anyone, ever, not saying "thank you" to the girl at the till, and elbowing kids in the face when they're scooting by on those runners that turn into roller skates.

Or maybe just have a glass of warm milk and a nap, captain CRANKY.

In an entirely unexpected turnaround, I like your writing style, it's very fluid and rather engagingly witty. I say this begrudgingly however because you're what we call in the army a total whingemonkey.

Yours, Goodthink

After careful re-reading of the above blog, which I hysterically speed-read, I realise that you defended Liam McD quite chivalrously and enthusiastically in the comments you posted, so I'm not sure whether you maybe have a split-personality dis-order (bit of a 360 there on your part, non?)or maybe I just jumped on the "what a jerk!" bandwagon without actually thinking first and then composing a logical response in the manner these things are traditionally done. I have no need for logic, I'm enigmatic and mysterious. I'd like to revoke the accusation that you are bitter or caustic. You are neither. Godspeed!

Yes, I genuinely love Liam McD's music, though I can never tell what my other personality thinks about it. Well done for figuring that out. You deserve your name. Having said that, you were right to assume I am a jerk. How dare I even think of having an opinion on the great man, even if it is a good one, much less give away the mote of inside information I have for all to see on the internet. Get back you (No, not you, my split personality is calling me a jerk). Get back! And I'm sick of people calling me a wingemonkey. I hate it. It makes me depressed. Those people are hypocrites!

PS. I was referring in my post to Liam's dogmatism, a humorous tool he uses himself, so I thought I would just rob his joke. I'm sorry everybody. Please, just , look I'll start being honest and normal if it helps? Normality might look a bit weird and boring on the internet though. Here goes. I'm going to resist the temptation to let whatever random thought that happens to twist my meaning (and possibly result in humour/irony) move across my keyboard. And I am going to try not to be lazy and explain myself clearly. This is a once off thing. I am normally lazy and assume people will figure out the good naturedess that lies behind even my satire. I am Irish and I tell people I like them by slagging them. Looks like I have a major crush on Stigmund. Ok seriosity starts here:

I like Gilbert Sullivan (one of the first two songs I knew was "Oh Clare", when I was 5-10) but not as much as I like Liam McD. I can see that Gilbert Sullivan might be too quiet for an ex rave head, so maybe Richie has been listening to those songs of Liam's that tend towards that side of things.

One of the things I admire about some groups is their mastery over the beat of the music. It seems that they can change to whatever timing they like and this makes for some great mood changes, which also makes the music more interesting. However, this sort of thing suits heavier music alot better, so I don't know if it is possible for Liam to incorporate that kind of thing into his style. If he could, I would bow down and worship him. Sorry, I lie. Can't even manage this honesty business for a couple of minutes. Sorry, can't manage the clarity either (what I mean is I lie about worshipping him etc, but his music would become even greater in my opinion) In fact, I haven't heard all his songs so maybe he messes with the beat more than I think he does. One thing I think he could definitely do is those pauses I like, at just the right moment, to emphasise or add humour. eg. Pulp: Common People: "So it started... there" (genius. if you don't know that song, find it and listen to it. I give it four out of five stars)

Have you ever heard Leanard Cohen's Lyrics? They are poetry of the highest form. But then, they are perfectly suited for his usually slow style, something the ravers wouldn't like. I like Liam's lyrics. He isn't trying to write poetry that bathes my ears in honey, so in a way I shouldn't compare him to Lenny. What I should say is that my taste tends towards imagery and practically incoherent meaning (it seems more meaningful when I have to struggle to understand it, or when it is clear that the English language needs to be really stretched by metaphors in order to express the meaning in the poet's mind), whereas Liam's stuff is more straightforward and this is perfectly valid and presumably what he is aiming for. One style is not better than the other except from a subjective point of view. I still think Leanard Cohen's lyrics are supreme though.

I am not pointing out these things to fault liamo. I am saying that he is great, and by personality I naturally break things down to explain them, so I am pointing out why he is great and this leads me to compare him to others, which in makes me think of what I like in the music of historically established bands, which makes me think, "hey, this guy is a genius, so I wonder if he could transform his stuff even more to encorporate everything I like?". The answer is going to be mostly no I reckon, because in most cases it would be like taking the throne from Buckingham Palace and placing it in the Taj Mahal. It could be just out of place in Liam's style, but hey, I'd love to see if it works.

So far so good I think. This honesty stuff is all right. Lastly, I like Liam's slogans that say stuff like, if you disagree with me you are wrong end of story, so I want to mention that here. That does it! I'm going back to my old ways! What I just said sounds utterly stupid, like people at a party playing along with a joke until some literal minded person comes along and says, "oh yes! This play acting is fun is it not?". Let's just assume Liam thinks he is God, and oh my Liam, for Liam's sake, in the name of all that is Liamly, let humour run its course.

PPS. I didn't buy Liam's music when I had a chance due to a combination of poverty and stinginess, but now I want to. Help.

I'd like to revoke my sarcasm in the previous comment about you Goodthink. It seems that you are a good man, if enigmatic. Of course as you by now must have ascertained, I also have no need for logic, and made my comment anyway even in full knowledge of the virtuosity of your character. I would like to be your friend but my myspace persona has loser written all over it. I've only three friends and no info about myself besides a picture of some confused yet content man in a lumberjack shirt, who sadly happens to be me. I bid you farewell and Liamspeed, and if you meet me again, if only to throw me a copper or two in the street, you will know not to take me seriously...

Or will you?
